bilal-animated-ethiopia-film-dubai-barajoun-studio-03

AFAAN PUBLICATIONS

Keeping Oromo Language alive

AFAAN PUBLICATIONS was created thanks to the sheer hard work of Toltu Tufa. An ambitious woman who dreamed of writing children’s books in her father’s mother language. After struggling to find educational tools to learn Oromo herself, she decided with the help of her brother-in-law to create them. So a crowdfunding campaign was launched afterward, raising up to more than $150,000. Toltu’s dream has turned into a fully-developed project. AFAAN PUBLICATIONS is now the first organization to publish textbooks, storybooks, stickers in Oromo. Props must also be given to all the people who helped complete this project.

They have put a lot of emphasis on the pictures, rendering their learning materials very playful. I am sure the kids will be yearning to learn their mother language!

This successful story highlights that the promotion of Oromo culture is of major concern for the diaspora. Henceforth, AFAAN PUBLICATIONS is expanding its scope of work: raising the Oromo community voice worldwide and fighting against literacy.

Do not forget that the fundraising campaign is still underway! They need your support.

They are currently book-touring in Australia, visit the website for more information.
